Chauncy Vale’s Guided Walks Program

Posted by admin on February 7, 2011

Chauncy Vale Wildlife Sanctuary is situated 4 km east of Bagdad and 40 minutes drive from Hobart. It is one of the oldest private reserves in Tasmania and is well worth investigating for its rich cultural and natural assets.

On Sunday the 21st of January seven keen participants met at Chauncy Vale to learn skills to start a once a month guided bushwalk. The experience of these people ranged from one person who became a member of Friends of Chauncy Vale on that day to Heather Chauncy who grew up here as a child and has been showing people her back yard for many years. The day was directed by Tim Devereux who has been doing some volunteer work for the TLC he has been trained as a guide and has had 6 years of experience as a bushwalk and sea kayaking guide.

This was a great opportunity for the group to learn new skills such as making interpretation fun, managing groups, fostering positive attitudes to the natural environment and the promotion of Chauncy Vale’s cultural and natural heritage.
